Meet Mehdi Manoochehrzadeh, a pioneering language educator whose relentless pursuit of native-like proficiency in English led to the creation of a revolutionary teaching method known as the Puzzling Method. As a native Persian speaker, Mehdi’s determination and innovative approach have empowered over a hundred thousand language learners to master English in record time.
From the ages of 8 to 11, Mehdi attended various language classes in pursuit of his dream to become fluent in English. He believed he had attained a high level of proficiency during those years. However, his first encounter with an English-speaking person at the age of 11 exposed a glaring flaw in the traditional language education system—the materials he had learned were of little practical use, leaving him unable to form even a basic sentence in English. This experience ignited a passion within Mehdi to find a more effective way of learning the language.
Since the 20th century, latest researches have supported the use of classroom assessment as a central feature and a fundamental element of effective teaching and learning (Şentürk & Baş, 2023). By the same taken, Jafarigohar (2020) believed that “assessment is an indispensable requirement of teaching and learning” (p.141). Furthermore, according to Fitriyah and Jannah (2021), the outcomes of assessments
play a crucial role in shaping how educators and educational planners evaluate the effectiveness of current programs and identify strategies for improving future initiatives. This process serves multiple
functions for all stakeholders within higher education institutions, with assessment practices evolving in response to external accountability measures mandated by various policy-makers. Movahedi and
Aghajanzadeh Kiasi (2021) highlighted a contentious issue surrounding the varied interpretations of the term “assessment” across different contexts. Their research on teacher versus learner-assessment tasks
demonstrated that formative assessment functions as a cyclical process, identifying the learner’s current
position and desired goals.
Contrary to the importance of digital literacy in making English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education congruent
with the recent technological advancements, a scrutiny of the pertinent literature in this regard is evident. To address
this gap, this investigation seeks to investigate Iranian experienced and novice EFL teachers’ digital literacy within a
comparative stance. Using a quantitative survey design, the data was collected via Digital Literacy Questionnaire. The
participants taking part in this research included 200 conveniently selected EFL teachers (100 novice and 100 experienced
teachers), holding all levels of academic degree in TEFL, English Language and Literature, and English Translation fields,
with diverse years of teaching experience across various schools and institutions in Iran.
